Ascension Glossary
Glossary of Vedic & Ascension Terms
Spiritual awakening is both a personal and collective journey, yet the language surrounding it varies. This glossary offers insightful definitions drawn from Vedic wisdom, Kundalini awakening, and both modern and ancient ascension teachings—designed to open conversation and foster accessibility.
A
Ascension
A shift in consciousness toward higher awareness and expanded perception. Often described as moving from 3D (material-based reality) to 5D (unity consciousness). True ascension is not an escape from the world but an integration of higher states into everyday life.
This era is unique in that Earth herself is also ascending, shifting into a higher vibrational state (5D). In this cosmic cycle, awakened individuals play a pivotal role, co-evolving with the planet to harmonize human consciousness with this profound transformation.
Ākāśa (Akasha)
A Sanskrit term meaning “ether” or “space.” In Vedic cosmology, Akasha is the subtle field that holds all information, thoughts, and energy patterns—also referred to as the Akashic Records.
Ātman
The Sanskrit term for the higher self or soul, referring to the eternal, unchanging essence of an individual.
Avidyā
A Sanskrit term meaning “ignorance” or “misperception of reality.” In Vedic philosophy, spiritual awakening dissolves avidyā, revealing truth beyond illusion.
Awakening
Awakening is the process of expanding beyond conditioned perception into a deeper recognition of reality. It is not a single moment but an unfolding journey—one that reveals the layers of illusion, shifts consciousness, and aligns an individual with a greater truth.
True awakening is not just about insight but integration—bringing heightened awareness into daily life, relationships, and actions, embodying higher wisdom in an authentic and grounded way.
B
Brahman
Brahman is the ultimate, formless, infinite reality that transcends all existence. It is the **unchanging, eternal source** from which all things arise and return. In Vedic philosophy, Brahman is beyond duality—neither personal nor impersonal, neither light nor dark. The goal of spiritual awakening is to realize one’s identity with Brahman, dissolving the illusion of separation and aligning with the fundamental truth of existence.
C
Chakras
Energy centers within the subtle body, each governing different aspects of consciousness. The seven main chakras align along the spine, with Kundalini energy rising through them during awakening.
The Seven Primary Chakras
1. Mūlādhāra (Root Chakra)
Located at the base of the spine, this chakra governs stability, survival instincts, and grounding.
2. Svādhiṣṭhāna (Sacral Chakra)
Positioned below the navel, it relates to creativity, emotions, and relationships.
3. Maṇipūra (Solar Plexus Chakra)
Located at the stomach, this chakra rules personal power, confidence, and transformation.
4. Anāhata (Heart Chakra)
Centered in the chest, it embodies love, compassion, and spiritual connection.
5. Viśuddha (Throat Chakra)
Governs communication, truth, and self-expression.
6. Ājñā (Third Eye Chakra)
Located between the eyebrows, it is the seat of intuition, insight, and higher perception.
7. Sahasrāra (Crown Chakra)
The gateway to higher consciousness and divine connection.
The Higher Chakras (Transpersonal Chakras)
8. Bindu Chakra
A subtle energy point at the back of the head, associated with higher awareness and nectar (amrita) production in yogic practices.
9. Talu Chakra
Located in the roof of the mouth, amplifies higher perception and connects to celestial sound vibrations.
10. Soul Star Chakra
Positioned above the crown, it acts as a gateway to cosmic consciousness and Akashic awareness.
11. Spirit Star Chakra
Further above, linked to the soul’s purpose, multidimensional awareness, and divine wisdom.
12. Universal Gateway Chakra
The highest accessible chakra, it anchors the soul’s connection to the infinite intelligence of the cosmos.
C
Consciousness
Consciousness is the essence of awareness—the field of perception that underlies all existence. It is more than thought; it is the living presence that connects all beings. As consciousness expands, higher states such as Unity Consciousness and Christ Consciousness emerge, dissolving the illusion of separation and revealing the deeper intelligence of the cosmos.
Christ Consciousness
Christ Consciousness is an awakened state of unity, love, and divine awareness, often equated with Oneness. It transcends religion, reflecting the higher wisdom found in many traditions.
In Kundalini awakening, the “Christ Oil” (sacred secretion) rises through the spine, activating the pineal and pituitary glands, leading to illumination and expanded consciousness. This process mirrors the resurrection principle, symbolizing the inner path to divine embodiment.
*Christ Consciousness and Unity Consciousness are often used interchangeably, both referring to a state of awakened divine awareness where the illusion of separation dissolves. However, Christ Consciousness specifically embodies the qualities of unconditional love, service, and divine wisdom, while Unity Consciousness is a broader term encompassing the direct experience of oneness with all existence.
Cosmic Order (Ṛta)
The universal law of balance and harmony governing all existence. Aligning with Ṛta brings a natural unfolding of awakening, rather than forcing spiritual growth.
D
Dharma
One’s true path or purpose in alignment with cosmic order. Dharma is not just duty but an expression of one’s highest truth in the world.
Darshan
A Sanskrit term meaning “vision” or “sight.” Refers to the experience of seeing or being in the presence of a sacred being, deity, or enlightened teacher, often leading to profound spiritual realization.
Dimensions
A term used to describe different states of consciousness and levels of perception. In spiritual and metaphysical teachings, dimensions represent varying degrees of awareness, ranging from material-based reality to expanded, unity-based consciousness. We are primarily interacting with these three on this plane:
3D Reality (Material Awareness)
The third dimension (3D) is rooted in ego-based perception, linear time, and physical reality. It is the realm of duality, where experiences are shaped by external conditions, logical reasoning, and sensory input. In 3D, separation is emphasized—between self and others, mind and spirit, past and future.
4D Transition (The Gateway Between Worlds)
The fourth dimension (4D) serves as a bridge between material awareness (3D) and unity consciousness (5D). It is both an energetic field and a transitional state, where consciousness expands beyond linear perception. In 4D, intuition heightens, synchronicities increase, and reality begins to feel more fluid. It is the gateway to higher awareness, often experienced in meditation, dreams, and altered states, yet it also seeps into waking life—guiding individuals toward deeper integration and permanent unity with higher dimensions.
5D Awareness (Unity Consciousness)
The fifth dimension (5D) is a state of expanded awareness where separation dissolves, and life is understood as interconnected and fluid. In 5D, perception shifts from struggle and limitation to synchronicity, unconditional love, and effortless alignment with higher consciousness. It is not an escape from the physical but a way of experiencing it with greater clarity, presence, and flow.
E
Enlightenment (Self-Realization)
Enlightenment is the direct realization of one’s true nature beyond ego, illusion, and separation. It is not a singular event but an unfolding process of awakening to the ever-present awareness that transcends time, identity, and limitation. In this state, perception shifts from personal struggle to a deep recognition of interconnectedness, peace, and clarity. While enlightenment is often sought as a goal, it is ultimately the remembrance of what has always been.
H
Hatha Yoga
A foundational form of yoga that emphasizes physical postures (asanas), breath control (pranayama), and energy balance to prepare the body and mind for deeper spiritual practices. It serves as a bridge between the physical and subtle aspects of consciousness.
Harmonic Convergence
The Harmonic Convergence was a global spiritual event that took place on August 16-17, 1987, marked by planetary alignments believed to signal a shift in human consciousness. Inspired by the Mayan calendar and astrological cycles, it was seen as the beginning of an accelerated awakening, urging humanity to move toward higher awareness, unity, and planetary transformation. Many view it as a key moment in the unfolding of the Ascension process—a collective shift into a more harmonious and spiritually attuned era.
J
Jyotish (Vedic Astrology)
Jyotish is an ancient system of astronomical and astrological knowledge from the Vedic tradition. The word “Jyotish” translates to “science of light,” referring to its use of planetary movements to provide guidance. Unlike Western astrology, which emphasizes personality traits and psychology, Jyotish offers a practical framework for understanding life patterns, decision-making, and personal growth. It helps individuals align with timing and natural cycles (kala), making it a valuable tool for navigating both everyday choices and long-term goals (dharma). By understanding karmic influences (karma-phala), Jyotish supports a more intentional and harmonious path through life.
K
Karma
The law of cause and effect, shaping one’s experiences based on past actions. Understanding karma allows one to work consciously toward liberation.
Kundalini
Kundalini is a Sanskrit word meaning “coiled one,” referring to a dormant life force energy at the base of the spine. In yogic and Vedic traditions, it is considered the subtle, creative energy that animates all living beings. Kundalini is often associated with vitality, inner power, and the connection between body, mind, and spirit. Though it remains latent in most people, it is seen as the source of higher awareness and transformation when activated.
Kundalini Awakening
Kundalini Awakening is the activation and rising of Kundalini energy, often described as a latent spiritual force at the base of the spine. When awakened, this energy moves upward through the chakras, leading to expanded awareness, heightened perception, and deep personal transformation. The experience can be gradual or sudden, bringing shifts in consciousness, emotions, and physical sensations. In Vedic tradition, a balanced Kundalini Awakening aligns with Ṛta (cosmic order), unfolding naturally rather than through force, supporting spiritual growth and self-realization.
M
Moksha
Liberation from the cycle of birth and death (Samsara). Moksha is the ultimate goal of the soul’s journey—achieved through self-realization.
Mantra
Sacred sounds or phrases used in meditation to tune consciousness to higher frequencies. Mantras align the mind with Ṛta and activate subtle energies.
N
Nāḍīs
Subtle energy channels that run throughout the body, carrying prana (life force). The three main nāḍīs—Ida, Pingala, and Sushumna—govern spiritual awakening and Kundalini flow.
Natural Law
Natural Law, (Also known as Ṛta in Vedic tradition) is the underlying cosmic order that governs all existence. It is not merely a set of rules but the intrinsic intelligence and harmony that upholds the rhythms of nature, consciousness, and spiritual evolution. Rooted in balance and dharma, aligning with Natural Law allows one to move in effortless flow with the universe, where awakening unfolds naturally rather than being forced. In the Vedic view, Ṛta is both the structure of reality and the guiding force that leads individuals toward higher awareness and self-realization.
P
Patanjali
Patanjali is the revered sage who systematized the philosophy of yoga through the Yoga Sutras, a foundational text on spiritual practice and self-realization. Often called the “father of yoga,” his teachings provide a structured path to inner mastery, detailing the Eightfold Path that leads to enlightenment. Patanjali’s insights bridge the physical, mental, and spiritual dimensions of existence, guiding seekers toward harmony with Ṛta—the cosmic order.
Patanjali’s Eightfold Path
The Eightfold Path, outlined by Patanjali, forms the foundation of classical yoga philosophy. Patanjali, an ancient sage and the author of the Yoga Sutras, structured this path to guide seekers toward self-realization and ultimate liberation (Moksha).
1. Yamas
Ethical restraints, including non-violence (Ahimsa), truthfulness (Satya), and non-possessiveness (Aparigraha).
2. Niyamas
Personal disciplines such as purity (Shaucha), contentment (Santosh), and self-discipline (Tapas).
3. Asana
Physical postures that create stability, balance, and ease in the body.
4. Pranayama
Breath control techniques to regulate life force energy (Prana) and enhance awareness.
5. Pratyahara
Withdrawal of the senses to turn inward and cultivate inner focus.
6. Dharana
One-pointed concentration, training the mind to remain steady and undistracted.
7. Dhyana
Meditation—continuous awareness without effort, leading to inner stillness.
8. Samadhi
Complete absorption into pure consciousness, the ultimate state of spiritual awakening.
This path is a practical and spiritual framework for awakening, balancing both inner discipline and direct experience of the divine.
Prana
The vital life force energy that sustains all living beings. Prana is cultivated through breathwork, meditation, and conscious living.
R
Ṛta
Ṛta (pronounced “Rita”) is the Vedic concept of cosmic order and natural law. It represents the fundamental intelligence that governs the universe, ensuring balance, harmony, and the rhythmic flow of all existence. Everything in creation—from the movement of the stars to the cycles of nature—unfolds in accordance with Ṛta. Aligning with this divine order leads to spiritual clarity, effortless action, and deep connection with the universe.
Ṛta Somvarta
Ṛta Somvarta expands on the principle of Ṛta, integrating it with the transformational forces of spiritual awakening. It describes the natural cycles of dissolution and renewal, where consciousness is restructured at both individual and planetary levels. In this time of accelerated ascension, Ṛta Somvarta acts as a guiding force—aligning Kundalini activation, higher states of awareness, and the cosmic reprogramming of human consciousness. This path emphasizes awakening through natural flow rather than force, allowing seekers to integrate higher frequencies into daily life with ease.
S
Samadhi
A state of deep meditative absorption in which the mind becomes completely still, merging with pure consciousness. In the yogic tradition, Samadhi is the highest state of meditation, where the practitioner transcends the ego and experiences oneness with the divine. It is truly the central limb Patanjali’s Eightfold Path, leading to liberation (Moksha). Different stages of Samadhi range from Savikalpa (with form and thought) to Nirvikalpa (beyond thought, into pure awareness).
Siddhis
Siddhis are extraordinary abilities or heightened faculties that arise from deep spiritual practice and mastery of consciousness. In Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras, they are described as byproducts of advanced meditation (Dhyana) and Samadhi, cultivated through disciplined yogic practice. These abilities can include heightened intuition, expanded perception, and seemingly supernatural skills. However, traditional Vedic teachings emphasize that Siddhis should be seen as natural expressions of refined consciousness rather than as goals in themselves.
TM-Siddhis
In the Vedic tradition, Maharishi Mahesh Yogi introduced the TM-Sidhi program, which includes practices such as Yogic Flying. These techniques are designed to accelerate spiritual evolution and integrate higher states of awareness into daily life. TM-Siddhis are not meant as mystical powers but as a way to refine the mind and align with Ṛta (natural law), allowing practitioners to experience effortless, expanded consciousness.
Somvarta
In Vedic understanding, Somvarta represents a period of intense energetic reordering—both on a personal and planetary scale—guiding evolution toward alignment with the natural laws of the universe (Ṛta). At this time, Earth and humanity are experiencing a Somvarta phase, accelerating spiritual awakening and the emergence of a new paradigm.
Spiritual Awakening
Spiritual Awakening is a profound shift in consciousness where an individual moves beyond everyday perceptions and begins to experience a deeper understanding of themselves and reality. It can manifest as an expanded awareness, a sense of inner peace, or a connection to higher wisdom. Unlike Kundalini Awakening, which involves specific energy activation, spiritual awakening can unfold in many ways and does not always follow a structured process.
T
Tantra Yoga
A spiritual path that integrates energy work, mantra, ritual, and meditation to expand consciousness and unify the divine masculine and feminine forces within. Tantra is not just about physical practices but about weaving spiritual awareness into all aspects of life.
U
Unity Consciousness
Unity Consciousness is a state of awareness where the sense of a separate self dissolves into a direct recognition of life as an interconnected whole. It is not an abstract idea or a fleeting mystical experience but a profound shift in perception—one that unfolds through deep spiritual practice, inner refinement, and alignment with natural law.
Rather than detachment from the world, it brings a clearer, more integrated way of engaging with reality, rooted in presence, compassion, and an unshakable sense of interconnection.
V
Veda
The Vedas are the oldest sacred texts of India, regarded as divine knowledge revealed to ancient seers (ṛṣis). They form the foundation of Vedic wisdom, covering spirituality, philosophy, rituals, and cosmic law. Composed in Sanskrit, the four main Vedas—Ṛg, Yajur, Sāma, and Atharva—offer profound insights into consciousness, natural law, and the nature of existence, serving as a timeless guide for seekers on the path of self-realization.
Y
Yoga
A union of body, mind, and spirit, leading to self-realization. It is both a philosophy and a practice, including meditation, movement, and devotion.
